How to make parents go vegan?

Any books or films to recommend? They hardly use a computer so I think a book would be best. Maybe I could show them a movie too. I'm thinking about giving them the The Starch Solution. Has anyone here read it? Is it a good book for introducing a vegan diet? Are there any other books you would recommend?

As for my parents' situation, my dad is basically calorie restricting because he has high blood pressure, which makes him easily irritated. And when he does eat, he prefers to eat pastries rather than real food. They are basically vegetarian though, but they still eat quite a bit of milk, cheese, and butter. I think my dad isn't very resistant towards a vegan diet, but he doesn't really know what to eat. And I think they both have a hard time making things taste good without butter and cheese.

  • I really like Dr. John McDougall's books and recipes because so many of the recipes are familiar to people who are not used to this way of eating.  Like mashed potatoes and gravy.  People can deal with that, it's not scary. He has several books, but I ended up getting the app for my phone because it is so easy, so I am not sure which of his books has the best recipes.  I think they are probably all good.

So I would recommend his books.  But also, probably Dr. Esselstyn or Dr. Ornish - if your dad has high blood pressure then he has a heart issue, and these two doctors are amazing. I haven't used their recipes as much, so not sure about how much I would like them, but certainly worth looking into.

    Good luck.

  • I tried to get my parent to eat vegan and failed. So now when ever I go over my father makes a steak to eat.

  • The 80/10/10 diet from Doug Graham is a great book

    also the China Study

And I highly recomend watching the doc forks over knives

Good luck! I hope you can make it. I failed terribly at my folks.

    • Thanks! I forgot to mention that since we live in Sweden, a fruitbased diet is not ideal, that's why I think Starch Solution would be better than 80/10/10. And I think the China Study is too scientific, I'm looking for something more easily assimilated for the layman. Forks over knives seems great though, I'll consider using that one.

      • Even if u don't intend to make them eat fully raw there r great explanations why fruits n greens are healing to the body in the 80/10/10 book. Also i would try by one fully raw meal a day it changes a lot already. :) starchsolution sounds great for ppl who r not into rawfood I still think fruit is the best nourishment for the body even if I don't live fully raw eighter. I live in Switzerland, rawtill4 is excellent for this area imo or as said at least one hclfrv meal a day is totally achievable
      • Forks Over Knives changes  a lot of people into instant vegans!
