Ripe fruit does not exist in montreal, it is picked unripe and shipped here and maybe with luck it will ripen properly. I got 2 cases of grapefruit, and I didn't see them before i bought them because i have to order in advance, and the grapefruit are pink/half green. I know its not the season but I wanted to get them. Last time I bought unripe grapefruit they never ripened properly and tasted very sour. Does anyone know any tricks to help them ripen faster? I tried putting them as close as I can to the sun in my small kitchen and it doesnt work.

  • they don't ripen after being picked.  chalk it up to learning about fruit and to know what you are buying.  plenty of info on the net.  I don't buy a case until the stores are carrying the fruit ripe.  So taste test in the stores first then you'll have a much better chance to get ripe fruit.  Melons are really good right now, coming in from Mexico, at least here in the U.S. midwest so probably where you are too.
