Ripe fruit does not exist in montreal, it is picked unripe and shipped here and maybe with luck it will ripen properly. I got 2 cases of grapefruit, and I didn't see them before i bought them because i have to order in advance, and the grapefruit are pink/half green. I know its not the season but I wanted to get them. Last time I bought unripe grapefruit they never ripened properly and tasted very sour. Does anyone know any tricks to help them ripen faster? I tried putting them as close as I can to the sun in my small kitchen and it doesnt work.

they don't ripen after being picked. chalk it up to learning about fruit and to know what you are buying. plenty of info on the net. I don't buy a case until the stores are carrying the fruit ripe. So taste test in the stores first then you'll have a much better chance to get ripe fruit. Melons are really good right now, coming in from Mexico, at least here in the U.S. midwest so probably where you are too.
