Great to see Mike Arnstein come out of retirement to win such a prestigious event, known for its grueling, technical, often times lateral and treacherous terrain! The Hurt 100 is known as one of the most difficult ultra marathons in the world due to the amount of obstacles on the course, tree roots and debris, that force the runner to run LATERALLY, from side-to-side, rather than straight ahead.

Hat's off to you Mike, great job. Definitely an inspiration for all the raw vegan runners out there. I used his training plan to complete my first 100 mile race (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vce-pVYIjx8)

Edit: For you guys that don't know, Mike Arnstein dedicated years of his life to showing the world that you can be an elite runner while following a 100% raw vegan diet. He runs a jewelry business full time in NY, and his training required 30 hours a week of running and 70 hours a week of sleep so he had zero time for his family during his years of competition, this was his "come back race" since retiring in 2013 to spend time with his family.

I know that some people in the vegan community have an issue with how Mike run's the WFF, but Mike definitely deserves credit for the years of rigorous physical training he put himself through to make a statement about a raw vegan diet, for being a role model to others in this area, and for putting out so much FREE TRAINING MATERIALS . Almost every single video, website, event, etc, that he has invested years of his life creating, he is sharing HOW TO GET THE SAME RESULTS THAT HE GOT, and giving people simple step by step advice, and encouragement. There are very few people out there doing this, and a lot of the advice he gives, isn't given anywhere else. His training tips totally changed my life.

Mike's accomplishments include (http://www.thefruitarian.com/content/race-stats):

  • 1st place Hurt 100 Ultra Marathon 2015
  • Vermont 100 2011 1st Place
  • Javelina 100 2012 1st Place
  • 100 mile best time: 12 Hours 57 Minutes 45 Seconds (6th fastest time ever by an American)
  • 2:28.29 Boston Marathon 2010

  • Awesome! I thought Mike had taken a break from serious ultra running. Cool to see him still running and slaying it!

    • Props to the Marnstein!
