School lunch dilemma

So, as it goes, I'm currently only vegetarian but slowly moving over to vegan. As it is, school lunch is a problem. I pity the lunch ladies fire the system they're forced to abide by, but I'm pissed at them for believing the hype. My biggest problem is they want me to start eating meat, add it means they won't have to deal with my "special needs". At the moment, I need suggestions for things I can make and pack before school top get me off the stupid school got lunch. I'm also contemplating starting a vegans/vegetarians club to raise awareness about the whole situation. As stated earlier, despite the existence of other options, the standard school lunches ate meat; and we all know how I feel about that. Working around the system by packing my own lunch won't solve it, it'll only help me. So what should I do?

  • True, I've started bringing my own lunch and I'm grateful for the suggestions you've given me. So far, I've been bringing sandwiches, but I'm having rice for dinner tonight, so I'll probably pack the leftovers for dinner tomorrow.
  • I just pack fruit for lunch. Now papayas or bananas. I understand that fruit can get smashed sometimes in your backpack, but there are no excuses. I cycle every day 2km to work, carrying either a watermelon and mangoes or bananas, or papayas and mangoes or bananas.

However I understand that fruit here in Thailand is superior and good most of the time, not always.

When I was working in office job in Slovakia, I used to pack a banana smoothie with frozen berries and some cane sugar. Or I would just eat dates, just make sure you !@#$%^& floss after each time you eat, if you dont wanna give your paycheck to dentists. Or you can cook some potatoes, or rice/pasta and vegetables, bring in the food container.

Its easy to be vegan at school no excuses. The hardest part is to find quiet place to eat by yourself where noone will give you shit and ask where you get your brotein.

  • Ok. So as it seems, I shouldn't make a big deal about this, just bring my own lunch, and get the message out there.

  • Not sure where you're from, but easy snacks to pack are sandwiches, fig bars, fruit, etc. it's real easy just go shopping and read the ingredients on pack able things or buy containers and make your own food to pack. I know seven elevens and walmarts sell big vegan cookies. There's potato chips, granola, the purple Doritos are vegan. There's so many things I can't name them all but just go shopping and read ingredients
  • It's so great that you are standing up for your health, being a voice for the animals and the environment!  I say just look at it as an activist project by educating the lunch staff at school but take it further and make an appointment with your school's director or principal to let him/her know about the situation.

And definitely start a vegan club!  Offer snacks and bring films to watch, rent them from the library or if you can connect youtube on a big screen do that. Apply for a grant to cover snacks.

All of this will go very far on your college applications!!!  Colleges care much more about your extra curricular activity than grades!!!  Show them you are a doer and an organizer!!!
