Senior in need of advice.

Hello to all. this is my first post.  I'm addressing this question to any seniors out there because frankly, from the pictures I see members look under 40 and probably don't suffer from these problems. At least I hope you don't.

In her book, I live on fruit, Essie Hoiball stated when she was first introduced by her husband to a fruit diet, "At times cramps made my body go rigid from head to toes".

I have always been plagued with cramps and I've never known anyone that experienced the same pain and discomfort that I do. She is the first person I've ever heard acknowledge having this type of problem. She does go on to say that it eventually stopped completely and she continued her diet.

Doctors have tried to figure out what I might have been lacking. I've been prescribed supplements and medications in the past but none have worked. Having just started this all fruit diet yesterday, today I have been plagued with a extreme pain from cramps in my legs, toes, arms, torso, back. The pain is truly unbearable. My wife reminded me that every time I change my diet I experience these side effects. So today I broke down and ate some meat.

Has anyone experienced the same discomforts that I'm experiencing? Can someone tell me what you have been able to do to eradicate these problems?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Advanced thank you.

  • Vegan witch that is really interesting.  Do you have any reference for the mitochondria love fruit and hate eating dead animals?

Dr Sarah Myhill wrote the book mitochondria not hypochondria and is all for the 100% stone age diet (sadly) to fix mitochondria.

    • hahahahah sarah myhill - yes, funny girl that one

your digestive system is too long in length for animal flesh to be safely digested not to mention you dont create your own vitamin C like carnies

put a lump of dead chewed up animal on the kitchen bench at body temperature for 3 days (average digestion time in the gut) then put mangos out on the bench for the same treatment, now which one do you think will be toxic  ?

      • Agreed.

I was shocked by the amount of Naturopaths n Alt Docs recommending eating animals for health.

There is a vegan-paleo branch but I think its all a fad.

        • anything that taxes the system pisses mitochondria off - i know thats crude to say it that way but cutting the BS and getting to the core of mito and your system - if its not efficient then its going to in some way direct or indirect make these little guys work harder than they have to and that puts them in a bad mood.

if we eat what we are designed to eat with good enzymes, rich nutrient (live food) then this makes our digestive gut work efficiently, the biggest bang for the lowest price - this status mito love, they run around your cell like crazy with smiles on their faces making ATP in healthy zinging amounts whhhiiizzzzz and you can literally see it on peoples faces and skin when this happened - its the "healthy" glow everyone wants.

every degree of body temperature is created by your mitochondria - so when you die, it doesn't take much for your body temp to go cold, this is how quick mitochondria die after a body becomes deceased.

to throw a spanner in the works .... plants have mitochondria too, thats how they "live".

          • you asked for info on what mitochondria like to eat - if you can keep up with this video it might give you a little insight.

your looking for him to say ATP this is mitochondrial energy, the energy you need to animate, operate and live on otherwise your a dead motherless rock .....

  • your body is not designed to break down animal parts as a main part of their diet so eating meat will NOT biologically help your cramps (ever) unless your cramps are caused by a psychological condition being that you mentally believe this will help.

i need to teach you about mitochondria before you can step forward hank

mitochondria are a organelle (bacteria for you) that live out in the cells of your muscles

    they are living beings

at your age you have several hundred per muscle cell

    they need to eat

they eat sweet and fatty foods

you eat, your digestive gut processes the food you eat to a slurry soup which is absorbed through your gut walls and transported to your mitochondria where its feed to them - they eat it and make electricity so you can move your muscles ever single moment of your life

if your mitochondria dont eat - they die

if your mitochondria die, you die

to be blunt ...mitochondria love eating fruit and hate dead animals

you know the little buggers are doing their job because mitochondria give you body temperature - if they weren't taking their electricity to animate you, your body would be stone motherless cold

mitochondria - google it and we will talk again

my mitochondria need to get their asses up and take my ass to work now

  • My first thought was Magnesium.

I use Epsom Salt baths or foot baths.  A couple of handfuls of Epsom salts in and I soak in it.  Best research this yourself first.  It brings me  a lovely feeling of calm and swellbeing.

    • A problem with Epsom baths is that you do absorb some salt and not a whole lot of magnesium.

  • Welcome to 30BaD! :)  There are many seniors here but I think more youngins post more often. There are a couple of groups for older folks, not sure how active they are but you may find older posts and threads that may be helpful. Seasoned Citizens and 40 +

Haven mentioned Magnesium.  I have recently been introduced to the book The Magnesium Miracle by an M.D.  Cramps are one of the classic symptoms of Magnesium deficiency.  She says we are all chronically Magnesium deficient.  You can find her on youtube.  When I went to the ER for an asthma attack they gave me 2 grams of Magnesium, (they will give up to 6 grams), and it completely stopped the asthma attack!  So now I take 2 grams orally if I ever have a flare up. I take Magnesium Glycinate.  If you take more than your body can use you will get a loose stool, 3-5 hours later.  So maybe you could try taking some for your cramping.

  • Hi Hank, I'm not an expert first of all- but perhaps you should up the intake of Raw Leafy Greens and Avacados (high in Magnesium), Best of luck to ya, Cheryl :)
