sitting and eating on the ground

A couple of days ago I gave my kitchen table away because I am moving to another city and did not want to take it with me. That got me thinking if it would not be a good idea to live without a table and chairs at all. It does not seem unnatural to sit on the ground. I wonder if it could be more healthy to sit on the floor than to sit on a chair. I guess you train more muscles while kneeling or squatting. Have you any information or ideas about that?

  • Thanks for all your comments! I might look into second hand furniture. That should not be poisoned.

  • chairs are super lame, they hurt my back! when i grow up im probably going to have no chairs, so i say totally go for it! oh and you can squat over the toilet too, its much healthier :D

  • I suppose this is the norm in some cultures.  Sit on ground or often on logs or stones.

However, my lower back tends to hurt if I do this for long periods of time so I like to rotate between ground and chair.  But I am not picky about my chair.

At friends houses and parties I dont mind having the floor all to myself while others huddle together on the sofa.  LOL.

I do sleep on the floor.  I love the back support.

And yes, less furniture means simple life more freedom to move on a whim.

  • Ednshell.

I had no idea.Well.live and learn something useful every day about poison being just about everywhere.

    Thanks.

  • Yes sitting on chairs cuts off circulation and is not a natural alignment for the body.  I think most people around the world still sit on the ground to eat.

    • Sitting in chairs cut off circulation? x.x that's not good. Would sitting on the floor on a cushion be fine, cross legged? I tend to use my laptop, sitting in a chair at the table since its at a good height, but if its not good for you, I'm open for some ideas o.o

      • There are quite a few folks here who work in an office at a desk job and they have converted their desk to stand rather than sit.  You can also have a tall chair as a back up.  Just sit cross legged if you need to use a chair.

        • +1 Shell.

It is the modern trend to have laptop on a tall table no chair.  It also helps one avoid the temptation to use elbows as a support and develop tendonitis and other injuries of the elbow and arms.

        • Thank you ednshell :)

  • A cheap option for you in your new place would be one of those 'palettes' (or whatever you call them wooden packing crates ) the roughness cleaned and sanded (NOT PAINTED) off it with cushions to sit around it.Something to 'place' your dish (dishes).Something that's not as solid looking as any kind of table and that is very low on the ground as well. Can also be lifted up against the wall, when not needed, same with cushions, staggered on top of each other in a corner for more floor space.

    Low sitting Marocco style.

But what about a squatting toilet? And how to go about it?That would be another healthy addition to living.
