I've been on this journey for almost four years now, and my lifestyle has evolved to the point where it's extremely physically active compared to the average person (although maybe not compared to people here!)  I bike 40 min up and down hills at a high speed, and I run 40-70 min day, alternating with yoga and a rest day.  I NEED to eat MORE calories!

I've been fighting my internal guilt at really stuffing myself like an obese person would, and I think I can tackle my mental hangups, but it's tough physically too.

It feels sometimes like I can't get the calories down that I need.  I know I'm just complaining here now, but it's SO HARD!  *Some days I'll be ravenous and it feels like I just can't get enough, no matter how much I eat.  My stomach gets in cramps several times a day!  I'm always going grocery shopping and stuffing my kitchen with food.  Even so, I'm getting really bored of all the same foods, despite having access to a huge amount of variety compared to most people.  I'm getting the four year itch.*  I have resorted to cooked carbs a couple times in the last month just to get enough.

Are the stomach cramps caused by eating mostly bananas and dates, which are so high in sugar?  I'm sorry I'm complaining a bit here.  Could someone remind me why it's worth it?  Cooked carbs and high fat starts to look very attractive after a four day stretch of intense exercise.

  • if cooked carbs are looking good that is a sure sign you are not eating enough calories from fruit.  ;)

check out Eli's schedule for an inspiring spring to action...80/10/10 athlete's daily routine - 30 Bananas a Day!

    • i go for a shot of cooked carbs because i get tired of so much sweet fruit after a while. Oddly as soon as I have a serving I'm good and snacking on fruit again.

  • Well, I'm a newbie at this but one of my fave go-to's for inspiration is Fully Raw Kristina- in the beginning I tried to eat the portions she was packing in! After looking at her food-day-in-the-life vids I realize she eats like 4000 cals/day! But she sure seems happy. Maybe watching a tiny lady chow down a mountain of fruit and greens would help assuage your guilt. :)

    • oh wow, great video, had not seen this one! :)

  • Durianrider adds sugar to fruit if its not sweet enough. I do that when I get the hunger and the fruit is not sweet too.

You know whats worth putting effort into, you and health. Bumps in the road will happen. Where would the fun be if everyday was sunshine and tulips?

    • thank you wicked mainer. i needed to hear that

  • i guess we just gotta cobb up guys :-P

    • we're undah cobbed

  • I really want to stick to this and I probably will, because no other diet really works for me.  Just bored and frustrated.  Open to tough love or positive encouragement.  Plus I'm not dating or seeing anyone, so I have no one to impress.  My ability to care about how I look has gone through the floor, and my determination is wavering.

  • I would add a handful of seeds or an avocado a few times a week, but it makes me so sluggish and I get horrible acne.  My body can't handle it, especially because I fancy myself an athlete.  Maybe my body is changing with the seasons, and I'm just in a rut.
