    • Actually,I've read it before.Concerning environment damage,do you have any idea of the devastation & displacement of native people caused by  commercial non organic monoculture banana plantations in central america and elsewhere over the past 50 years?.Only recently has there been a move toward organic plantations but they amount to less than 1% of world production.

In India and other countries grains and mixed crops including fruits were grown organically & sustainably for millenia with no decline of soil fertility. After world war II the military/industrial complex needed a market for their chemicals so industrial/chemical/factory farming was born.In the mid 60's the so called 'Green Revolution' was born,as a so called solution to alleviate world hunger. The misguided idea was if you fed the soil chemical mineral fertilizers,input/output,the more put in the more you get out but in the process the once naturally alive fertile soil was burnt out of organic matter and humus. This has been going on unabated ever since and has recently reached another level of destruction with the introduction of GMO crops.

Grain crops are not the ;problem, its how any crop is grown and how we manage or mismanage the land.

  • Simple?,really?........What would you suggest the billions of people who rely on grains as a staple source of carbohydrates do?,starve?........if you say eat bananas and dates you're kidding yourself.

  • I know that I get tons of mucus when I eat grains!  So,  I go by what my body tells me.

  • No, definitely not.  Very irritating to the colon.  Goes rancid quickly.  And, it tastes and feels like sawdust.

  • lots of great answers!

I'm still not able to eat 2000kcal worth of fruit/veg a day

so for now I think I'll keep some rice and quinoa in my diet.

    • Hey there Jeane,

If you cannot find or afford enough fruit then cooked lfv is second best yes.  But if it's a matter of getting in enough calories then Dr. D says it's perfectly fine to skip the greens for the first few months on 811.  It won't take that long though before you are able to handle enough fruit and greens.  I would just focus on High calorie fruits for now.

    • I am new and only on day 4, but I have been getting 2500-2900 calories of fruits and veggies a day.  I do so with two big greens smoothies and then a huge salad for dinner.  I snack on fruit if hungry.  Have you tried the green smoothies?  Today, I put 5 bananas, 1c. frozen peaches, 1c. strawberries and 1/2 bag of spinach in one and it was delicious and 700 calories!!  But, if you are comfortable with the rice and quinoa, I say do what you feel is best!!  I hope your day is great!!!

  • They are one of the best choices for food when loads of fruit aren't available year round.

    • I don't necessarily agree with you, but KUDOS for not being a fanatic!
