Canned Clams?

Hi all, glad i found this group.  i'll be 60 in a few months and on day 3 of Raw Vegan.  Okay, i'm about 95% Vegan right now.  Question:  Is eating a few canned baby clams a day good to get your B12?  (that'd be the 5% i was missing)  Thanks in advance.  Reason i ask, i ran the cronometer and of course was really lacking in B12, but when i added the clams, my B12 was more than fine, over 200%.

On another note, was on my 2nd day and mentioned the banana diet to a lady who was trying to lose weight.  Like Billy Jack, she went berserk!  "Way too much sugar, blah blah blah"   Then she got her breakfast which i noted.  It was a huge, probably 3 eggs omelet, full of cheese and sodium laden hand chunks - the side was greasy fried potatoes.  She said, "low Carbs!"

i said,  "Oooookay."

  • Here at 30BaD we promote a vegan diet for health and animal rights reasons, so we would not recommend eating clams.

AS far as b12, about 40% of all individuals whether vegan or not develop issues, and it may have more to do with poor soil nutrients, eating grains, wheat and gluten products, as well as sterile water supplies (in nature we would get some b12 from natural water sources).

Many people here such as myself do not have low b12 (I was checked last year and not anemia of any kind.)

I recommend just stick to your new program, and only supplement b12 if you develop a medical deficiency, and only take b12 prescriptions under a doctors care.

I have written more about vitamins including b12 with references here:

    • Thanks PK for your reply.  (Does PK stand for preacher's kid?)

So I wonder how long the liver will store B12??  A month?  3 months?  Maybe I've got plenty stored.  For now, I'm dropping the clams.
