Reflection on the Safety of a Technocracy

For years, I've been a supporter of the ZeitGeist Movement and the idea of Resource Based Economy.  I'm certainly for a major change in the political-economical paradigm that the world is currently suffering from.  However, James Corbett's recent discussions on the history of Technocracy (of which RBE is certainly one) have left me feeling unsure.

My first concern with the (then) combined Venus Project/ZGM was when either Peter Joseph or Jacque Fresco proposed forcing vaccination on the public as a means of making efficiency savings in health care.  I wondered then if the scientists would wind up forcing us to eat space-age food, live in laboratory conditions and give birth from test tubes but supposed that some common sense would prevail should the RBE ever come about.

Corbett's point, however, is that Technocracy is nothing new and in all previous attempts at selling the idea, it has been very much controlled by the same "masters" who we are trying to break free from today.

  • I don't believe you can call TVP's vision of a resource based economy a technocracy. Technically they sound similar, but Jacque has always advocated choice and freedom as being of the utmost importance, which is why you'll often hear in Jacques lectures for instance, that you wouldn't be forced to live in his cities, but that it would just be a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

Check out the videos below for reference on the "Is TVP a technocracy?" issue.

I've never heard of the "forced vaccination", and would love to see where you're getting this from. In regards to the rest of your concerns, Jacque has talked on the subjects a number of times, and always the point ends up being that personal choice and freedom in every regard is paramount, and that there should never be force.

Check out The Venus Project media on youtube, they have plenty of videos covering almost all the questions people have posed in regards to RBE and TVP.

    • First of all, did you listen to the linked podcast?  If not, then you're not in a position to provide an opinion on it.

Secondly, thanks for the links as, although I've read and watched plenty of Venus Project material, it may be that I've overlooked these ones.

Thirdly,  despite Jacque's and Peter's independent visions, any future society will be run by people and in every historical instance (to my knowledge,) power has been usurped either by those entrusted with the power or by others who used force to take that power.  The great intentions of the first generation quickly fade away with successive generations.  No doubt that is why Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuala, is so adamant to keep the reins there.  He can be very sure that once he steps down, sooner or later his predecessors will be bought out by the elite and all political and social advancements in that country will be wiped out.

And finally, a computerised control system will only be as good as the programmers and the people supplying data to it.  The only way to ensure the continuance of a revolution is to have a never ending revolution, much as Karl Marx prescribed.  Once the people have put down their arms and gone back to peaceful ways, they lose the impetus that's needed to keep the "government" in check.

PS: The vaccination comment was in a documentary/podcast I heard several years ago.  If I can remember where I heard it, I'll post it here.
