  • I have the same craving as you.
I like the taste of olives & pickles.
This is not compatible with HCLFV, in my opinion...
I will offer myself 12 days without any olives & pickles or salt added products... I will let you know how I feel.
  • How much do you value excellent health?  Olives cannot be eaten off the tree.  Pickles are high sodium, high chemical additives and are not really food.  It's your choice but these are not truly food items and fit for high nutrition eating.

  • i generally ask myself if it would be available/edible/appealing in nature before i eat things.

olives are hard and inedible (according to my mom, who used to visit olive orchard in italy during the summers) unless they're cured (salt! also unnatural. we get sick when we drink salt water, but apparently dehydrating salt and adding it to our mostly-water bodies is okay? crazy!) or pressed into olive oil.

pickles are a fermented food. i used to like kombucha until i went fruity and adopted this way of thinking. if we were in nature and we saw a huge vat of kombucha, this weird liquid with a big slimy mushroom floating in it, and a huge vat of clean pure water, which one do you think we'd find more appealing and looks instinctively more beneficial to your overall well being?

    • I'm more on board with this.. Although I truly believe everyone is different and our bodies can handle different things... I want to see how well my body does without the process of fermentation. The salt is also a big negative. My concern would be- are these foods helping you stay away from pizza or helping to sustain your craving for "normal" food. For me, the flavor is TOO intense. It is TOO concentrated. Maybe you should try a week without and see if anything changes. I have a feeling fruits and veggies will taste even better! But hey- I only have 2 weeks in :)

    • Conor, great post.  Yes, our tastebuds regenerate and in fact new ones start I think every 12 days.  I was a salt fanatic and now without salt at all in my system, nor MSG! thank goodness, thanks to a 92 day juice feast cleanse, I thorougly enjoy the taste of actual food!  Lettuce, fruit, vegies, etc.  Now I ask myself why would anyone put anything on a salad besides fruit and vegies?  LOL

Of course SAD eaters have to disguise crap by adding "flavor enhancers"  i.e. chemicals.  Salt, fat, refined sugar, chemicals, fat and devoid of nutrients is what causes our demise as you well know.

Best to stay away from anything processed.

  • I have an olive or two just about every time I tend bar.  The flavor is so much more than the fruits and veggies that I usually have.  So I think it is good to have a little flavor explosion.  And I usually get Bubbies organic pickles.  I haven't since going raw and I'm kind of scared that I would eat the whole jar of them!

I agree, they are better than bready, cheesy, cooked foods by far.

  • I love olives and pickles too. I just ate a bunch of queen olives last night lol. As for how 'bad' they are for you...all I know is they are better than a bag of salt and vinegar chips...or 4-5 slices of bacon pizza. For me its all about 'better thans'

    • I totally get this... If its going to keep me from eating a slice of pizza then it is better to have some olives or pickles! Thanks :)

    • Good call! :-) J

  • Hi Jaime,

I love olives too but just have to watch the portion sizes with this fatty fruit! J :)
