Transitioning pets to a vegan diet

My family and I became vegans three months ago and are totally loving this lifestyle. We have two dogs that we really want to become vegan and need tips on helping them transition. We have been feeding them a vegan dry dog food which they love, and giving them raw meat twice a day. We have tried giving them vegan canned dog food but they didn't really go for it. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

  • Why not get a pet lamb, or miniature goat or chooks. Or better still why not spend the money you spend on dog or cat food on sponsoring a child or spend the time, energy and money you lavish on a dog or cat on fostering a child or devote to environmental cause - hey? Time to evolve beyond needing to bind and dominate animals to us. Dogs are pack animals and therefore depriving them of this natural social contact is nothing but cruel indulgence. Think about it - why do you keep a dog or cat instead of making real relationships with your own species?

  • The easy way is just feed them on a variety of the oil-palm fruits of the Amazon. I needs to find a helper to help me grow vegan-organic petfood in Australia. My email is

  • Just stop the meat and they should be fine.  All commercial vegan dog foods have been supplemented sufficiently just like almost all commercial dog foods are.  Vegedog has a supplement that we use for extra health assurance.

We also feed lots of home made meals from our left overs and lots of bananas and nuts and seeds. I use this pdf guide for fat and protein needs and try to get close to that.  We use petguard organic vegan canned otherwise.

Have you seen bitesizevegan's video on dog food, really really good!!!
