Favorite bodyweight exercise

What is your favorite bodyweight exercise? Second favorite, third?

1) I have a hard time choosing, but I'd have to say burpees and all the variations you can do with burpees. They make me feel aliiiiiive.

2) Jump lunges. Those make my butt feel amazing. It's no coincidence people are always commenting on my bubble butt. "How do you get that butt?" "Ummmm, just do these..." as you observe the fear in their eyes.

3) Leg lifts. I have a dip station, on which I do my leg lifts. Good stuff.

  • 1. Anything that resembles a pullup bar gets me going.

    2. Pushup variations.

    3. Windmill leg raises on pull-up bar.

I feel empowered when I do any bodyweight exercises! Great thread, thanks for ideas guys n gals.

  • Don't do em often, but nobody's mentioned animal crawls yet.

Mimicking our bear (alternate limbs moving), alligator (same side limbs), and cheetah (both front limbs, then both backs) friends creates a serious burn!

  • Jump squat burpees!!! Loving those!
Attempting hand stand push ups!! Lol
Any kind of squats- wall sits, 1 leg wall sits, jump squats..etc!!
OOOH & bicycles loves those too! :D
  • Hi I'm a personal trainer and love love love body weight stuff far more than any weights or equipment work, I find it really creates functional strength and that lovely long lean muscle that look amazing.
    My favourites:
    1) hands down.....leg lifts to define the butt and inner thigh so many variations so mix it up but ur butt will burn and tone so quickly.
    2) plank again with diversity so arm raises and leg raises whilst in the plank to strengthen lower back and side obliques as well as abdominal muscles, you can even do plank push ups
    3) any abdominal stuff again huge variations but I have never used weights for abdominal work and have always had abbs missing it so much now I'm pregnant!!!

    Love this group guys :)
  • 1) push ups and all variations

    2) pull ups / muscle ups

    3) jumping squats/lunges

with these you cover pretty much the entire body!

  • Fingertip pullups on the molding of a door jam.  Pick your feet up and hang free or just do more of them if your feet are touching down.  When you can't do any more, put 1/2 of your weight on your feet and do half way pullups till your fingers burn out to develop finger strength.  Work a thin layer of wood ashes onto your finger tips to improve your grip.  Very good if you like to climb trees and rocks.

  • Anything that involves a pull-up bar, parallel bars, rings or a kettlebell.
  • I love burpees too! When I've been sitting for too long I like to get up and do 10 burpees and then i feel better :)

  • this is such a great thread!  i'm a huge fan of planks and reverse crunches, there's also a move where you get on all fours and repeatedly kick one leg up behind you then switch to the other leg.. i call it the butt-buster.  that's what it does, busts your butt right into shape!  i just did a great workout on my yoga mat with the 3 moves i just mentioned, plus burpees, hindu squats, and dive-bomber push ups which i'm happy to see are also real popular here =]

    • Oh, that kicking move sounds amazing. When you say all fours, do you mean with your face facing the floor or the "crab" position? I may experiment with that, but alternating legs kicking really fast, haha. Your workout sounds great. I did some balancing stuff yesterday. It's amazing the results you get from working intensely in short periods of time.
