  • When watching TV sit on the very edge of the couch or easy chair, raise legs straight out in front, horizontal to the floor, and hold for as many minutes as you can.  Concentrate all of your attention on the TV so the pain of the burn fades into the background.

  • Here is Bret Contreas' mini study on abdominal exercises. http://www.t-nation.com/testosterone-magazine-627#627%23best-ab-exe...

Hanging leg raises are up there, but chinups are king.

And he didnt include exercises such as front levers, back levers and human flags.

Of ourselves, if you can do those, do planks and sit-ups with straight legs.....leg stress on the low back than bent knee crunches.
  • I have Convict Conditioning but I haven't had the time to really get into it yet. I've read some but I'm always too busy to read further. I'm just looking for a quick killer workout I can fit in to any part of my day.
  • When it comes to the core, the hanging leg raise is king, toes to bar (you must be familiar with that, given your training :)

But for maximal strength, make it zero momentum, at least 2 seconds up, controlled tap, 2 sec down.

It's ok to build up to that progressively.  Start lying down with bent knees, then 1/4 bent, then straight, then hanging bent, hanging 1/4 bent, raise 90 degrees, and so on.

See Convict Conditioning from www.dragondoor.com for full details and additional progressions.

    • Good suggestion Windlord!

Kennedy I have Convict Conditioning and Pavel's Hardstyle Abs with instructions on Leg raises - both laying down and hanging.

  • One of the best exercises you can do for your abs is chinups. Study's have how a chinup will recruit more rectus abdominus muscle fiber that loaded crunches over a ball.

Direct ab work isn't needed if you do pushups, chinups, dips, squats, etc.
  • There are tons of exercises and also philosophies of which exercises to do. Easiest thing is to search thru YouTube vids. Once you get a sense of the variety and range of exercises, you can see what suits you & then possibly purchase a book or a DVD.

There's so much to choose from so it would be good if you got a feel for what you would like to do and what works for you.

Almost all the fitness gurus who have books and videos out will have a segment or separate video/exercise set on solely abs exercises.  You can also send me a pm or your email as i have tons of resources i've picked up over the years.

  • Have you seen this? : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMdeGCz7SN0&feature=em-uploademail

I use a lot of their workouts at home when I don't have time to go to the gym. You will get daily workouts from them if you subscribe or you can just go to their website where they have a huge selection of exercise videos for free.

    Hope this helps,

    Helene
