I've been eating junk food for 61 years. During that time I was a good marathon runner. I had no clue that my diet of junk was harming me so badly. At the age of 48 I was told I could never work again because of severe depression. I was lost. Five years went by before I could try to do anything about it. One day I thought about the days when I would get up and go for an easy 20+ mile run. How great I felt and how clear my head was by the time I got home. I decided I wanted to run again. I haven't run in years. As much as I wanted to I just couldn't get out the door. My depression had a major hold on me. I started studying about health and diet. I learned so much and my dreams of becoming an elite senior runner got stronger and stronger. All the while I was eating candy and pop all day. I tried the Master Cleanse for 54 days. It worked great or at least I thought it did. Months later I was back to "fast food" pop and candy. Depression is weird. I want something so simple, like being healthy, but I just can't get started. I found 30BaD while watching videos on utube. This is what I was looking for. I can eat. I will be healthy. I will run. And must of all I will live. I look forward to the days to come and my new found life. Something that I had all but given up on. Thank you all for your support.

The Frugivore started this site to bring together frugivores across the Globe! Let us know what high fruit assistance do you need?

Knowing that somebody cares is all need. I can fight the depression. It really helps to know that somebody is out there that has my back should I start to fail.

  • Great Bob! :)

  • Excellent! Things will keep getting better and better! :)

When I saw your profile it made me think of how transformed my thinking was after a few months of raw veganism. In fact, one of my pet day-dreams has been to start a place where people suffering from any of a host of maladies could go to transition to a raw vegan diet, to clean out all the crap first, to get a *real* baseline and then start their therapy from that point. It would have a mix of holistic and conventional medical professionals and therapists.

It's kind of a wonder that anyone benefits from medicine at all with all the junk that most people have floating around in their bodies. In fact I think a lot of medicine would simply be unneeded entirely without all the crud!

As to your question, Just about any food is best in its natural state period. But that said, those things you mentioned? If you enjoy them, they are certainly more nutritious than the "standard" snack items! I think it's great to be as pure and natural in what you eat as possible, but do what you need to do to make it work for you! This is not a religion although to see some of the food wars on some of the sites, you'd think it was!

If you make good, thoughtful decisions about what you eat and how you live you will be WAY better off! So rather than worrying, just be aware and make notes. At some point if you correlate any sort of energy ebb of bad feeling from a certain thing you eat, you can always cut down on it or cut it out.

It's kind of fun, the raw food or the natural hygiene esotericism, but in my opinion it cannot really be the end goal. I think the end goal has got to be feeling good and making it work. Nothing is set in stone and your diet will change over time as you refine what works best for you, that's totally fine! :)

  • Hi,

    Welcome aboard! :)

You can check out the Banana Welcome Wagon at:

    http://www.30bananasaday.com/profiles/blogs/30bad-banana-wagon-tour

To get started. Be sure to note food, calorie, water, sleep recommendations and log (can use www.cronometer.com or similar)  your food/drink intake, at least for the first few months to get used to what you need to eat to stay on target calorie wise as well as macronutrient (carbs:fat:protein) wise. Even if someone is a long time, established, raw vegan, it is possible to discover some things using "hard-data"; spot trends, be able to make good adjustments, that might not be possible otherwise.

    Enjoy!
