Hey everyone, since the festival is now planned to take place in Thailand I thought recent breaking developments there might warrant some interest from this wonderful group of people!
Hereward Fenton is a great Australian journalist who is covering the situation in Thailand. I've never seen anyone able to get to the bottom of a situation and bypass the spin in a journalistic sense better than this guy. Thank you! Unfortunately democracy is what got us into this mess in the first place. Democracy just means the rule of the majority, and that's not exactly just when it comes to the minority that doesn't consent but is encumbered with this or that ruler that everyone else voted to rule him or her :-( We need to evolve past this.
The reason governments harp on about democracy this and democracy that all the time is because they love it. What we need is a voluntary society where as long as you don't initiate force against someone or their property you are left alone, in other words, that the initiation of force is never allowed by anyone. The problem with government is that everything they do is predicated on the initiation of force - it's very premise is based on utter immorality. If we get roped into another "democracy" the whole game starts again and whatever relatively minor gains in the short term are realised will be quickly lost, relatively speaking.
