Hard time reaching Fruit calorie quota.. Dates the answer?

It seems hard for me to fill my calorie quota of the day. I was thinking that eating 1/2 of my calories from medjool dates could help since they are more compact. But is that not healthy to eat so many everyday since they have a lot of sugar? Or does it not matter as long as I am getting in the calories? Thanks!!

  • Jem, if eating dates help you reach your goal quota and you don't like other fruit and try it. If you are getting negataive results from eating more dates, then try eating different varieties of fruit and see if that helps.

I find that if I eat too many dates in one day I break out with acne the next day. I think its the concentrated sugar, but I'm not sure. I don't get breakouts from over eating on other fruits.

  • This was sooo helpful thanks for posting ~
  • Thanks- you all posted some great information.  I do very well during the day.  I have been eating enough however my problem comes in at dinnertime.  I have horrible cravings for dang nasty cooked food.  I feel like I need a good recipe for salad dressing.  I love my salads but they are not good without a good dressing.  Any ideas? Also, what do you all eat for dinner???

    • Hi Crisa, I've been having plain lettuce (iceberg or rocket or spinach) and then pouring mashed/blended mango on it.. I miss plain old salt oil and vinegar but this is so yummy too!

I'd also like some other salad dressing ideas! Anyone else??

  • Thanks for this post and to people who answered!! I was wondering the same thing.. :-) J x

  • I must say, I'm not really sure about whether this is a food combining no-no or not, BUT ...

what helps me at times is making a smoothy out of as many bananas as you feel comfortable with (i.e. 3 or 5 bananas with water) and adding enough dates to get your desired calories for the meal (i.e. adding 10 to 12 medjools soaked in water the previous night, along with soaking water). I was able to get a 1000 calorie drink in about maybe 7 or 8 cups total volume (I don't like it too thick).

    • I'm doing something similar, but I'm only up to three bananas at a time so far.  Struggling to be hungry enough to eat enough calories, but since I usually eat 800-1000 (regular vegan-- not restrictive on purpose-- just not hungry), I know it will take me a while to get the calorie count up!

    • Practice makes perfect! I got up to 2500 cals yesterday for the first time. It was hard though because my stomach isn't used to it! Good luck to you:)

    • Thanks!  I'm really struggling.  I'm eating enough to get a little poochy belly, but not enough to even come close to my quota.

    • That is a great idea! Thank you Chris!:)
