  • Life is great homegirl! Hows your forest going at?
  • Hey ashley! How is life? Hoping your growing adventures are coming along! Weather been good for you in SC?
  • Hey ash!
I actually had a previous relationship with the Y (worked there doing maintenance) which helped me out. They knew how into gardening I was, knew I went to hawaii and farmed, knew I study nature, yada yada yada. So, that helped me out a lot when I proposed the idea to start the garden. And also, I had great references.

I would say do it at your house- no reason not to! You say you have a great deal of space, why not get free labor ;). You can start by approaching people, printing flyers, and what not explaining little detail about permaculture, sustainable gardening, ecological gardening, food forests, etc. Make yourself sound smart- not too smart!

Then, you can go about asking for volunteers to see who wants to learn which will help you in the beginning stages. Once that takes off you can either set up classes with children and charge or do it for free, whatever floats your boat! Remember, everyone needs to make a living and theres nothing wrong with doing it in a sustainable way!!

Talk to local parents and explain to them that you want to work with children to teach them how to take better care of themselves. Explain to people that children growing their own food will eat more fruits and veggies and are less likely to become obese (You can find sources all of the internet for studies).

    Be well:)

  • Glad to see you back ashly! It's been quite without you around ;)

Yes, the project at the YMCA (6,500 sqft) is based on permaculture principles, ecological gardening, and forest gardening. Which is all pretty much the same but each offers a little different style. I will be teaching children from 3-17 and the local community on how to live more sustainable using permaculture practices.

Currently, politics has it on hold. Next year should be when the planting happens. The land is all back fill so I need to re-establish healthy soil, set up water harvesting supplies (already dug swales), design, and prepare for next year. It is going to be alot of fun!

    Good luck at your house!!
  • haha, i look like a foool in that picture! im getting ready for wowrk. ill call you around 11!
