  • Hello! I am a fairly new vegan and I love going to the gym, excited about this journey. I really want to lean out but continue getting stronger. I go to the gym at least 5 days a week I lift weights then do about half hour of cardio starting with a 14 minute run and then go on the stairs for 20 minutes. I really like eating cooked carbs. Sometimes I find it hard to eat fruit all day until 4, for me its easier to eat a vegan bread or cereal and then have rice or pasta for the rest of the day with some fruit and veggies as snacks. Sometimes I participate in raw till 4, when I have enough fruit.

Any suggestions? I have started my vegan diet July 29 2016 , I have lost some weight it is coming off slowly.

Thanks! Super excited about the vegan lifestyle.

  • I've researched many dating sites, and for its many search capabilities and free communication, I say the best dating site in the whole world for bodybuilders and fitness and athletes who happen to follow the raw vegan or fruitarian lifestyle is http://www.veggiecommunity.org (free to communicate too!)

  • Dharani,

Eating avocados and fatty plant based foods such as nuts (almonds, brazil, cashews) or seeds ALL depend one cardio activity and metabolism. I have a very normal metabolism, and at times when I was doing lots of cardio (cycling 70 or more miles a week) I had to eat 2 avocados a day and nuts with every meal in order to maintain my weight, and I was very thin, 5 percent body fat).

Right now I am in a mass building phase, doing less cardio, and while I am eating lots of carbs, I am eating less fat and do not need it.

Avocados and fat do help to build muscle, but if your goal is to keep muscle and lean out, then I would limit avocado to 1/2 a day, do cardio 4 or more days a week, and you will lean out and maintain muscle assuming you are eating enough calories from planr based foods as well.

  • Hey everyone, haven't been on here in awhile. Sort of got caught up with the whole raw vegan lifestyle and lost sight of my weight loss goals. Meaning I got into the high fat side of things. I've kept the initial weight loss (10lbs) off but need to get serious again. Going back to mostly fruit smoothies and huge salads. For the avocado question, I usually use half a small avocado in my salad for my fat for the day, or some pine nuts. I feel my best when I carb up a ton and use very little fat! Looking for any support to keep me going. I am in competition with some friends who are doing it the normal high protein way with meat and dairy. I want to show them that us 801010'ers can rock it too! Would love to hear how all of your progress is going!

  • how often do you eat avocados?

I crave them a lot, but I am trying to lose weight and build muscle. Do you think one a day is ok, or is that too much fat?

  • I so happy I found this group! I am competing this May. Last time when I competed I followed standard body building diet. I found 80-10-10 in Summer 2013. Started following 80-10-10 in November. Now I need all the help possible to get in the competition shape.

If I can help somebody, that will make me only happier.

  • If you haven't done so already I would recommend checking out Erin Moubray who is a WBFF pro bikini competitor that follows 80/10/10.  She has a facebook page, a profile at veganbodybuilding.com, and has done several interviews on youtube with Food & Sport (Doug Graham).

Struggling for muscle gains on 801010

Hi guysIm Zeus from Canary Islands, Spain.I've been living around Asia for the last 2 years (China, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore) as my job requires to move every 3 or 4 months.I've been fruitarian -or raw 801010 (9055 on average) for a year.Feeling great! The best choice I've done in my short life so far! But now I get some doubts about gaining muscle. First I want to clarify my believe system. I believe REAL muscle its hard to build up, so muscle gains can't be achieved…
